Taking place regularly, or on demand, we will be running a series of walks around Wimbledon Village - exploring the rich cultural heritage of this beautiful area. The aim is not to lecture, but to spark curiosity - offering a way to experience the familiar with a different kind of attention.
The Writers Walk - explores Wimbledon through the lens of poets, authors, diarists, journalists and the literary imagination. It’s a reflective route that encourages participants to notice the textures of the neighbourhood and consider how a writer might turn these details into narrative.
The Famous Buildings Walk - looks at the architectural character of the area, from grand villas to modernist experiments. Each building becomes a story about the people who lived there, the social changes that shaped the streets, and the quiet drama of how neighbourhoods evolve.
The Playing Detectives Walk - brings a more playful tone, drawing on Wimbledon’s links to actors and the world of TV detectives. Participants learn about actors who once lived in the area, and explore how suburban calm often hides unexpected stories. It’s a light‑hearted route that blends cultural references, local anecdotes, and unexpected tales. The mystery to solve is who is Jacob's famous TV detective uncle? The route will include references to:
Sherlock Holmes
Poirot
Ms Marple
Inspector Morse
Sweeney
Luther
Thursday Murder Club
.. and many more…
